Blogging the Draft, best known for its excellent NCAA Tourney coverage, has a fantastic primer on the Advocare Invitational, which features NCAA Tourney mainstays Dayton, Notre Dame, Wichita State, Xavier and Iowa among others.

No one expects Alabama to win this invitational; this is going to be a (re)building season (moreso if there are academic casualties among the newcomers,) but, the tournament will be a good opportunity to measure up against some big boys, and see how Coach Johnson's team competes against some deeper marquee programs. There is no shame in a blowout opening loss, but I expect we'll see a lot of heart from the Tide, no matter the scoreboard.

A thorough preview and a comprehensive look at the tournament follows at the below link. Check it out.

Bama and Notre Dame did not meet in the 2008 Maui Invitational, but the Irish encountered Monmouth in the 2007 Paradise Jam quarterfinals, blasting the Hawks by 43. Monmouth rebounded to defeat Wichita State by nine in the consolation bracket the following day. In the 2006 edition of that event, Alabama's run to the title featured wins over Iowa and Xavier. Finally, USC topped the Shockers in the consolation game of the 2006 Las Vegas Classic.
