Alabama Lands Both Sexton and Petty

Mark down November 10, 2016 as the day that Alabama basketball showed up on the map.

But can he recruit?

This was the question surrounding the candidacy of Avery Johnson for the Alabama basketball job, and it was a fair one. Johnson had shown himself to me more than capable on the sideline in the NBA, but had zero experience coaching at the college level.

Consider that question answered.

In adding two of the top players in the country in future backcourt mates John Petty and Collin Sexton, Johnson has assembled the best recruiting class in the history of Alabama basketball.

Sexton is the big prize of the class, a consensus top 10 overall player who was the starting point guard on the 17u USA national team at the FIBA world championships, where he was named the MVP. Besides his incredible talent on the court, he has an infectious personality, is confident but not cocky, extremely articulate, and when asked about his favorite part of the game his first answer is "playing defense."

Mark my words, in a few years high school kids are going to be lacing up their Sextons.
