After all-world kicker Eddy Pineiro chose to decommit from Alabama a few months ago, the Tide staff apparently made an immediate offer to Mitchell Wasson (Lassiter HS, Marietta, GA) to join the team as a preferred walk-on, with the intent of competing for a scholarship early on.
Wasson is the 5th ranked kicker in the nation, and chose Alabama over Georgia, Florida, Mississippi State, Rutgers, and a scholarship offer from Navy.
After a lot of thinking I've decided to commit to The University of Alabama blessed to have this opportunity. pic.twitter.com/Bh3emkZfYS

Though he is being recruited as a kicker, Wasson was also voted first-team all region punter for 5-AAAAAA in Georgia. He also won the kickoff competition for the Chris Sailer kicking camp in 2015. Here is a quote from his performance after the camp:
"Mitchell is a sure fire D1 scholarship pick. He has perhaps the strongest leg in the nation and as much potential as anyone. He won the kickoff competition with ease by hitting several balls over 70 yards with 4.20+ hang time. His field goals are also outstanding."
With Adam Griffith about to enter his senior year as kicker for the Crimson Tide, Wasson is assuredly going to be groomed his first year on campus to be ready to take over field goal and kick off duties in 2017.
