NSD2016: Elite Corner Spurns Oklahoma for Alabama

More defensive backs can never hurt, right?

At 6'1" 190, Jared Mayden is a rangy and physically imposing corner that many expected to be lock to go to Oklahoma, where his family preferred him to be. Mayden was initially committed to Oregon, but chose to decommit and remove Oregon from his list of schools on January 6th. Soon the race was down to Alabama and Oregon for the standout from Sachse, Texas.

Though Alabama got involved fairly late in the recruitment, Nick Saban made it well known that Mayden was a top priority for the Crimson Tide. You may remember Mayden's name from a week ago when it went viral that Saban did the Wobble:

Well, apparently dancing coaches is what attracts recruits these days.

The four star corner is the 13th ranked player at his position, and the 147th ranked player in the entire nation. He joins Shyheim Carter and Nigel Knott as the third cornerback in Alabama's 2016 class.
