The Seahawks traded up un the draft by giving the Chicago Bears a 4th round pick to secure Reed's talents. After letting DT Brandon Mebane leave in free agency, Seattle was looking for a pure run stuffer to pair with pass rushers Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett.
The Seahawks are beefing up in the trenches, and Reed is known as a big-time run stuffer. A player close to Pete Carroll's heart. With Brandon Mebane gone in free agency, this pick makes a lot of sense as a potential replacement. Reed is the final player in the Green Room to come off the board.
With Reed finally being picked, the last of Alabama's fallen trio have now been selected. Though never expected to last that long, Seattle apparently decided that Reed was worth trading away a pick to grab him before he fell any further.
Here is Reed's scouting profile here at Roll Bama Roll.
