Alabama Football 2016 NFL Draft: New England Selects Cyrus Jones

Is there really anywhere better for Jones to go?

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

With the 60th overall pick, the New England Patriots selected Cyrus Jones. Though talented, many expected Jones to be picked somewhere between the 3rd-5th rounds, so the second round selection is a bit of a surprise. Honestly though, if any player from this team deserved it, it was Cyrus.

Jones will be asked to compete for playing time with Justin Coleman and Darryl Roberts, as Ryan and Malcolm Butler are the presumed starters in 2016.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick loves Alabama defenders because head coach Nick Saban comes from Bill Belichick's coaching tree- so Jones should have a leg up with regards to learning the Patriots lingo in the secondary.

The Belichick-Saban connection obviously played a part in this pick, and Belichick likely fell in love with Jones's grit and hyper-competitiveness.
