The Crimson Tide held their first scrimmage on Saturday behind closed doors. While no stats have been released, Coach Nick Saban shared some injury updates from his press conference:
"Dalvin Tomlinson twisted his ankle a little bit. He’ll probably be out for a few days. It’s sort of hard to tell about those things on first look. Da'Shawn Hand didn’t scrimmage today, but I think he’ll be OK, probably, by Monday."
"We got a couple guys that got light concussions. We’ll work through concussion protocol with them, but I’m not sure that any of them are really, really serious. We’re gonna take every precaution before they get back, and hopefully that won’t be long."
Alabama sophomore running back Bo Scarbrough also sustained some sort of injury in the scrimmage, but details were not divulged.
"Bo looked good early, got a little dinged so he didn’t practice as much or have as many carries."
Scarbrough has battled some injuries in his young Alabama career. The Crimson Tide will need a healthy Bo if they hope to contend for a playoff spot this season.
As a result of Scarbrough's lightened workload, Damien Harris, B.J. Emmons and other young backs gained some valuable reps.
"The young guys, I think, all did a pretty decent job. I think that we're very encouraged by what they've been able to do daily in practice, and I feel like those guys can certainly be contributors for us. B.J. is a very naturally instinctive guy, really works hard, has got a lot to learn, but he is working hard at it and has done a really good job so far."
"Damien Harris, I think, has done a pretty good job so far. We just gotta keep working those guys, and I think they're all gonna make a contribution to the team this year."
The Crimson Tide will be back at practice on Monday.
