College Football Around the SEC: Who’s Going Bowling?

We are entering into the third trimester of the season. Have you been basking in the glow of what your team has accomplished so far?

Back in August it was probably too soon to predict anything. But now teams are starting to reveal identities. As it stands now, four SEC teams are bowl eligible and four are a win away. The rest may have a struggle.

Win-Loss Record key:

SEC - conference record

P5 - non-SEC record against Power 5

MM - record against Mid Majors/Non-Power 5 FBS but projected bowl participant

CC - record against cupcakes, FCS and perennial FBS doormats (subject to my whims).

EAST:

Georgia Bulldogs (7-0: SEC 4-0, P5 1-0, MM 1-0, CC 1-0)

Status: Bowl eligible, looking like the Beast of the East.
Prediction: Win out regular season but there could be some struggle. Lose the SECCG: 12-1.
Bowling: Playoff in Pasadena or Peach Bowl.

Georgia at Florida 2:30/3:30 CBS the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party!

Florida Gators (3-3: SEC 3-2, P5 0-1, MM 0-0, CC 0-0)

Status: Slip Slidin' Away.
Prediction: After losing the WLOCP, the Gators should beat Mizz and UAB. If they want to get to a bowl, they will have to win at SC or beat FSU. I don’t think they get it done. Probably should have found a way to play that Northern Colorado game instead of just cancelling it, huh? 5-6.
Bowling: Nope.

Georgia at Florida 2:30/3:30 CBS the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party!

Tennessee Volunteers (3-4: SEC 0-4, P5 1-0, MM 0-0, CC 2-0)

Status: Circling the drain. The game with UK is pivotal to the rest of the season and perhaps the fate of Butch Jones.
Prediction: Beat USM, Mizz and Vandy. Lose to LSU. This UK game is tricky. Lose and it definitely effects the other games. But I am not going to chicken out and call it a pick ‘em. With some hesitation, I’m taking UK: 6-6.
Bowling: Music City Bowl.

Tennessee at Kentucky 6:30/7:30 SECN

Kentucky Wildcats (5-2: SEC 2-2, P5 0-0, MM 2-0, CC 1-0)

Status: One win away.
Prediction: Win first three, lose last two: 8-4.
Bowling: Liberty Bowl.

Tennessee at Kentucky 6:30/7:30 SECN

South Carolina Gamecocks (5-2: SEC 3-2, P5 1-0, MM 1-0, CC 0-0)

Status: The surprise team of the SEC is one win away.
Prediction: Lose to UGA and Clemson, win the rest: 8-4.
Bowling: Belk Bowl.

Vanderbilt at South Carolina 3pm/4pm SECN

Missouri Tigers (2-5: SEC 0-4, P5 0-1, MM 0-0, CC 2-0)

Status: A mess.
Prediction: They should get by UConn but who knows? Other than that, I see L’s across the board: 3-9.
Bowling: Staying home.

Missouri at UConn 5:30/6:30 CBSSN

Vanderbilt Commodores (3-4: SEC 0-4, P5 1-0, MM 1-0, CC 1-0)

Status: Vandy gonna Vandy.
Prediction: Defeat WKU and Mizzou, lose the others: 5-7.
Bowling: Not unless it is one of those lame 5-win waiver bowls.

Vanderbilt at South Carolina 3pm/4pm SECN

WEST:

Auburn Tigers (6-2: SEC 4-1, P5 0-1, MM 1-0, CC 1-0)

Status: Bowl eligible.
Prediction: Lose to UGA and Bama, beat TAMU and Monroe: 8-4.
Bowling: Citrus Bowl.

Auburn has bye week.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-2: SEC 2-2, P5 1-0, MM 1-0, CC 1-0)

Status: One win away.
Prediction: Lose to Bama and TAMU (just a hunch), win the other three: 8-4
Bowling: Texas Bowl.

Mississippi State at Texas A&M 6:15/7:15 ESPN

Texas A&M Aggies (5-2, SEC 3-1, P5 0-1, MM 1-0, CC 1-0)

Status: One win away.
Prediction: Lose to Aub and LSU, win the rest: 8-4.
Bowling: Outback Bowl.

Mississippi State at Texas A&M 6:15/7:15 ESPN

Arkansas Razorbacks (2-5: SEC 0-4, P5 0-1, MM 0-0, CC 2-0)

Status: Dire.
Prediction: Defeat Coastal and Mizzou: 4-8.
Bowling: Nope. May the road rise up to meet you, Bert.

Arkansas at Ole Miss 11am/noon SECN

Ole Miss Rebels (3-4: SEC 1-3, P5 0-1, MM 1-0, CC 1-0)

Status: Not eligible.
Prediction: Wins over Arky and ULL: 5-7
Bowling: n/a

LSU Tigers (6-2: SEC 3-1, P5 2-0, MM 1-1, CC 1-0)

Status: Bowl eligible.
Prediction: Lose to Bama, win the other three: 9-3.
Bowling: Citrus Bowl.

LSU has a bye week.

Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0, SEC 5-0, P5 1-0, MM 2-0, CC 0-0)

Status: Bowl eligible.
Prediction: Win out. SEC Champ. I’m not being a Gump. This is how I see it laying out: 13-0.
Bowling: Playoff in New Orleans.

ALABAMA has a bye week.
