It took an entire season of us spoiled fans wringing our hands over the 2018 Alabama recruiting class, but the Tide finally has a 5-star recruit in it’s class. Eyabi Anoma is the #7 overall player in the nation out of Baltimore.
His statements to ESPN: “It’s the Saban era. Time in and time out he produces top-notch players that compete at a high level and I want to go there and compete at a high level. Nothing is being given to me. I like competing against the top people in the country. So that’s why I’m going, so I can get top-notch competition.”
Sounds to me like Anoma has his mind right and is already on the way to being Processed. He’s been expected for a long time to commit to Alabama, but the lack of any firm decision and a quiet recruitment had many wondering what he was really thinking.
With so much attrition to have hit Alabama’s edge rushing unit this year (only one sack the whole year came from an outside linebacker— a cardinal sin for a 3-4 base defense), you can bet that obtaining an elite edge rusher was priority #1 for Saban.
Alabama’s “weak” recruiting class is now 5th in the nation.
