Where Bama’s Class of 2017 Recruits Come From

Nick Saban and company brought in another incredible recruiting class from across the country

Do you like maps? Of course you do. Who doesn’t enjoy a good map?

Alabama has the ability to go into virtually any state and pluck out an elite recruit of its choosing, and that didn’t change this year. The #1 or #2 recruit (in the 247 Composite) in six different states — Alabama, California, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, and Louisiana — committed to the Crimson Tide, and the top recruit in Alabama is coming to Tuscaloosa for the fifth straight year.

As usual, most of the recruits are clustered near Alabama; but the staff can and did go far afield.

I marked Dylan Moses and Thomas Fletcher at IMG Academy in Florida instead of their original hometowns, though I did note those down. For the two JUCO recruits, Baker and Buggs, I marked their original hometowns instead of where the JUCO was.

State breakdown

  • Florida - 7 (counting Moses and Fletcher)
  • Alabama - 6
  • Louisiana - 5
  • Texas -3
  • California - 2
  • Georgia - 1
  • Kentucky - 1
  • Hawaii - 1

While Nick Saban has taken players out of LSU’s territory for years, this year’s haul was amazing. Three of the top five recruits from the Bayou State will be wearing crimson (and Moses would make it four of the top six.) LSU landed just 3 of the top 10 from their own state, including missing out on Marvin Thomas to FSU.

Not too shabby, Coach.
