2017 NFL Draft Profile: With the 16th overall pick, the Baltimore Ravens select Alabama CB Marlon Humphrey

The Alabama legacy left for the draft after playing for only two seasons at Alabama. He’s an exceptional athlete (an Olympic-level track star) with a lengthy frame and fiery attitude on the field, though maybe not totally refined in his technique yet.

Raven’s GM Ozzie Newsome already has a history of drafting Alabama players, and the athletic cornerback was just too tempting for him to pass up. The Ravens already have a formidable defense, with C.J. Mosley at the heart of it, and another defensive back will help shore up the back end of it.

Humphrey is a fluid athlete with the speed to recover on deep balls and the quickness to shut down slants and quick outs. He’s exceptional in run defense and taking out blockers in wide receiver screens.

That said, he has shown some major struggles at playing the ball in the air, and loses out on jump balls more often than not, even if in correct positioning. His aggressive nature also leads to him biting more often than he should on double moves.

He may not be totally ready in year one and might have a rough rookie year, but in the long run should be a stalwart in the Raven defense.
