Inside the Play: Who busted the coverage on Clemson’s pick play?

Tony Brown caught a lot of flak after that game, but it really wasn’t his fault

Tony Brown caught a lot of flak following the 2017 College Football Playoff Championship versus Clemson. Owing to a night-long miscommunication in the secondary, he was toasted pretty good on two plays. He was not alone by any stretch, particularly on third downs.

However, it is the last snap of the night where some unfair criticism has been directed towards him. The Tigers executed a pick play that should have been defended, but not by Brown. Today, Inside the Play, we look at what Clemson did, how Alabama was aligned, and then look at the critical coverage bust (cough, Marlon Humphrey, cough) that led to an Alabama loss.

Look, I know this is painful. But, it’s better to face it straight-on and move forward. Let’s start the healing process by burying that game and this play.
