On a day the offenses couldn’t get much going, the best defensive battle since the Game of the Century was in need of heroes. Fortunately, with the 4th quarter winding down in a scoreless contest, Alabama found one.
True freshman Jalen Hurts, in the most hostile environment possible — a night game on the road in Death Valley — found a seam in the LSU defense. Aided by some nice backside blocking, he scurried through hisTiger opponents for the 21-yard score and an eventual 10-0 Alabama win.
Since that 9-6 overtime loss in the 2011 GOTC, Alabama has now defeated LSU six straight times, including two shutouts and three games won in overtime or in the late 4th quarter. Four quarterbacks have contributed to the streak, and the Tide have won four SEC titles, three national championships and another Heisman trophy in that time span.
LSU, meanwhile, has posted double-digit wins just twice, have lost 10 Western division games, and fired Les Miles.
