For six straight decades, the University of Alabama has placed a former player in the NFL Hall of Fame. A total of eight players have their busts in Canton; good for fourth behind Southern Cal, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
While that’s not surprising, what has been unexpected is who makes an appearance in Northeast Ohio. A program that has identified with its defense and running game for over a century has sent just one defender (Derrick Thomas, Class of ‘09) and no running backs to the Hall of Fame. However, since Don Hutson first got his yellow blazer in the Class of ‘63, the Tide have placed two offensive linemen, two pass catchers, and three quarterbacks in Canton.
The NFL and the for-profit NFL Hall of Fame prevent embedded videos, but you can visit their official induction pages at the links below for stats, multimedia, interviews, player chats, and the induction ceremonies.
