Saturday morning college football schedule, viewing guide and how-to-watch

It’s surprisingly watchable morning slate for a change.

Alabama has the 2:30 game. So, we’ll jump over to a game thread for that one (ESPN2/WatchESPN). In the victory thread, I’ll put up a viewing guide for you too for the evening games.

In the meanwhile, below is the full Saturday slate and your Saturday morning viewing guide.

Here are the highlights:

  • MISMATCH OF THE WEEK: Lane Kiffin’s pitiable FAU Owls go to Camp Randall, where Wisconsin is looking to erase the bad taste they left in our mouths after last week’s first half against Utah State. UW still won that game 59-10; FAU is many orders of magnitude worse than Utah State. This one may get into the 70s for the grumpy Badgers.
  • Battle of the Corn (or as they call it, the CyHawk Trophy) pits the Iowa Hawkeyes vs. the Iowa State Cyclones. For whatever reason, the Hawkeyes drop far more of these games to little brother than they should, especially in Ames. Sadly for Iowa, this one is on the road at Jack Trice and the Hawkeyes offense looked neutered last week vs. Wyoming. Ferentz’s teams start slow in the season; best not in a rivalry game, no matter how much better the Birds are than the Clones.
  • NERRRRRRDS: Northwestern travels to Durham to play Duke. The Wildcats may be decent this year; no such luck for the Devils. Despite the disparity, this one is usually not a bad watch.
  • Louisville @ North Carolina: Yes, this one would be better if it were on the hardwood. But, neither team has a secondary, and the ‘Cards are a turnover machine. If the ‘Heels can keep Brandon Harris on the bench, the potential is there for a derptastic home win...or get their doors blown off.
  • LOWKEY UPSET ALERT OF THE MORNING: Jacksonville State travels to Atlanta to face a hurting Yellow Jackets team. This is a Top 10 FCS program filled with FBS transfers. Tech had best get focused and not let Tennessee beat them twice. This has he potential to be a loseable game for the Jackets coming off a short week and a double overtime game.
  • GAME TO SKIP: Cincy at Michigan -- first meeting ever and it will be a loathsome, boring beat-down (The Bearcats have a new coach who didn’t exactly light it up on an interim basis in Columbus, and Cincy even struggled last week with winless FCS Austin Peay.) Alums probably won’t even tune in for this garbage.
