Alabama Offers 2018 QB Brock Purdy

The Arizona product may well be the answer to the QB question.

After missing on Florida signee Emory Jones, Alabama fans have had some concern about the QB position. The Tide currently have only three scholarship passers on the roster, which is dangerously thin considering the volatility of that position where transfers are concerned. It is imperative that Alabama adds at least one QB in the 2018 cycle, and they may have found their man in Perry High’s (Gilbert, AZ) Brock Purdy.

The Tide have been in on Purdy for a while, but were offering only a preferred walk-on opportunity. Boise State had stepped up with a scholarship offer, and the word was that he was weighing those two options. Now that Alabama has offered a scholarship, it will be something of an upset if the three-star prospect ends up anywhere else.

Brock’s numbers are eye-popping. In 14 games, the Gatorade state player of the year threw for over 4400 yards and 57 (!) touchdowns with 9 interceptions in Arizona’s largest classification, and added another 1000 yards and 10 scores on the ground. His recruiting has been somewhat slow, apparently due in part to his size. He stands 6’1” and weighs 197 lbs. Watching his tape, there is little question about his passing ability. He has a quick release and appears to be very accurate on both short and long throws, and according to his Hudl video boasts a 3.8 GPA to boot.

Interestingly, new coach Jeff Banks was immediately assigned to Brock’s recruitment. Banks pulled both Kyle Allen and Christian Kirk out of Arizona for the Aggies. Perhaps we will see a few more recruits from The Grand Canyon State in Crimson going forward. In any event, we will be keeping an eye on Brock until national signing day. Videos below.

Come on down, Brock. You’ll fit right in.

Roll Tide.
