For whatever reason, feet continue to be a real problem for the Alabama defense. Trevon Diggs is the latest to join the party.
He is one of five players out with injuries, joining linebackers Terrell Lewis (knee) and Christopher Allen (knee), corner Jalyn Armour-Davis (knee) and safety Daniel Wright (shoulder).
”We now have five defensive players that are out for an extended period of time that were starters and in the two-deep, and three of those guys are defensive backs,” Saban said. “So, it’s going to be challenging. We’re obviously very thin. We need some other guys to step up and develop, and the next guy up’s got to take the challenge and play well for us.
”But Patrick (Surtain II) has played quite a bit at his position, so we do have two guys that do have some experience. We just don’t have a lot of depth right now. And we’re going to have to get some other players to develop and be able to play for us.”
Funny enough, most of us partisan hacks had figured on Saivion Smith and Patrick Surtain II outside, but Trevon outplayed everyone and became the steadiest of the bunch. Surtain seems to have settled into a starting role, though he has shown the propensity to get lost at times. It’s likely Saivion’s job now, with some combination of Josh Jobe, Eddie Smith , Nigel Knott, and Kyriq McDonald running second team with Drew Lock coming to town this weekend.
If you haven’t already bet the over for Saturday, you may want to beat the rush.
Roll Tide.
