This is outstanding.
From Ben Jones at the Tuscaloosa News:
Alabama claimed four of the SEC’s seven individual football awards as voted on by the league’s head coaches, the league announced Wednesday.
Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year, while Kentucky’s Josh Allen was named Defensive Player of the Year. Texas A&M’s Braden Mann was voted Special Teams Player of the Year, Alabama’s Jaylen Waddle was voted SEC Freshman of the Year and the Crimson Tide’s Hale Hentges was selected as Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Alabama’s Jonah Williams was named winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, while Kentucky coach Mark Stoops was named SEC Coach of the Year.
More at the link above, including stats. But, when you’re fielding the best offensive player, arguably the best defensive player, the best offensive lineman, the smartest player, and the GOAT at coach, good things are bound to happen.
Yesterday offline, Roger and I were texting about Quinnen Williams losing the Bronco TNagurski trophy to Josh Allen. That is one where you can make a very good case for Allen — he is the best pass rusher in college football. Sacks are flashy But, where it matters — gameplannng, impact on the team. making others around him better — Q has been the best defensive player in the nation. It is so hard to win individual awards at the nose tackle. But, ask any offensive coach in the SEC who’s the one defensive player that they must scheme around in order to succeed, and Williams’ name is apt to come up the majority of the time.
So, was he robbed? Take our poll and be heard.
Congratulations to Jonah, Tua, Hale, and Quinnen.
