Alabama DL Coach Karl Dunbar Headed to Steelers

Saban has yet another opening to fill.

NCAA Football: CFP National Championship Game-Alabama vs Georgia Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

According to several reports, Alabama defensive line coach Karl Dunbar is leaving for the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dunbar is the fourth coach to leave since the end of the year, along with defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt (Tennessee), offensive coordinator Brian Daboll (Buffalo Bills) and defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley (Oakland Raiders).

Whoever replaces Dunbar will be the fifth new coach Saban has hired since late December.

Shortly after the national title game, it was reported that Saban was unhappy with the recruiting as a whole, which inspired a thorough housecleaning. The Tide notably missed on two top DL targets yesterday. Whether there is a correlation here is anyone’s guess.

In any event, Dunbar did a fine job in Tuscaloosa, mentoring the likes of Jonathan Allen and Da’Ron Payne. We thank him for his work and wish him well in his future endeavors.

Roll Tide.
