Spring is really, really busy here at RBR.
Between our historically good softball and gymnastics teams, basketball seasons winding down, spring football and A-Day, the NFL Draft, baseball entering league play, T&F’s vast improvement, and the great women’s doubles squad, we sometimes lose track of our other excellent teams — men and women’s golf .
But, we’ll try to do better.
Today, the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide enters Day Two of play in the 2018 SEC Championships at gorgeous St. Simons Island (GA.)
At the end of one, the Tide were 3-over par 283 on the Sea Island course. Alabama is a senior-led squad, with Lee Hodges and Jonathan Hardee finishing the day among the top-10 individuals players.
The top eight squads after 54 holes of stroke play advance to the finals on Sunday for match play. Oddly, Georgia is nowhere to be found at the top of the leaderboard on their home turf (hehehe. UGA keeps taking Ls to ‘Bama). Vandy (No. 4) leads at 4-under; while No. 9 Auburn and No. 50 Tennessee are tied for second at even-par; No. 11 LSU is in 4th; and, Alabama is one-stroke behind those Tigers at +3.
If Alabama’s freshman can improve their scoring today, and if Hodges and Hardee continue their torrid pace, Alabama should do a great deal of moving up the leaderboard heading into the final 18 tomorrow.
Today’s round, paired with LSU and Kentucky, is streaming on Golfstat.com, and UA Golf’s twitter account will have live updates for you.
