The 6-seed Alabama Men’s Golf team did some moving up the leaderboard on Thursday, up from 5th to 3rd. Thursday however, the Tide dropped back a bit to 4th, largely because of the regression of Senior Jonathan Hardee. Hardee, who was in the Top 10 after posting a -2 on Wednesday had a tough round, shooting an 8-over on Thursday on the difficult par 70, 7,005-yard Seaside Course.
But, freshman Wilson Furr had great rounds on days two and three, and finished with a season-best even-par 210 after 54 holes. How challenging is the St. Simon layout? Furr’s 210 (E) places him among the Top 10 individualists entering match play. Senior Lee Hodges has been brilliant so far, and had another two-under (68, 72, 68). Hodge’s 208 (-2) is good for 7th overall.
The surprise of the event though has been the performance of the 11th-ranked LSU Tigers, who finished day one tied for third and then stormed into the lead today to win the stroke play portion of the tournament. The top eight teams advanced, with Alabama the 6-seed overall entering tomorrow’s quarterfinals.
The Crimson Tide’s opponent will be the No. 4 (and third-seeded) Vanderbilt Commodores beginning tomorrow at 7:20 a.m. . Coverage is available on GolfStat.com
