Two Alabama players earned FWAA Freshman All-American honors today, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and wideout/cheetah Jaylen Waddle.
Waddle has played in every game this season, tallying 43 catches for 823 yards (19.17 YPC) and 7 touchdowns.
PSII was pressed into service early this season, after Trevon Diggs went down and as Saivion Smith was still getting his feet under him. He’s been so incredibly smooth in pass coverage (until the Orange Bowl, at least) that his stat line doesn’t really jump out at you: 1 interception, 6 PDs, and 37 tackles. But, it’s a credit to his coverage that teams aren’t really targeting him either.
Congratulations to both players and Roll Tide
