With a score of 41-0 at halfime, Mac Jones officially surpassed anything Tua Tagovailoa has done in a single half this season.
Granted, the defense forced 4 turnovers— including one returned for a TD. Jones has mostly thrown a bunch of WR screens, but he’s mixed in just enough mid-length attempts to keep things honest, including a TD to Henry Ruggs III, which was a perfect throw to DeVonta Smith in the endzone, but Smith alligator-armed the pass and Ruggs happened to be in the right place behind him.
Meanwhile, the defense has been mostly outstanding. They let the Arkansas running backs slip out around the edges a couple of times, and they had a couple of bigger pass plays when Anfernee Jennings got tasked covering a wide receiver on a drag and when Markail Benton decided to chase a QB instead of cover a wheel route. Other than that, they’ve been absolutely phenomenal. If Terrell Lewis continues to play as disruptively as he has tonight (and last week), Alabama won’t lose a game. And anything Lewis hasn’t got, Anfernee Jennings has swatted at the line of scrimmage.
Anyway, we might get to to see Taulia Tagovailoa in the second half. Heck, at this rate, we might even see Paul Tyson.
Roll Tide!
