Since Tua Tagovailoa went down with an awful hip injury on Saturday, the main concern has appropriately been for his health and recovery. Tonight, however, we find out if it affects the CFP committee’s rankings. According to Barrett Jones, it isn’t supposed to.
(2/2) Based on this, my opinion is that I doubt we see a huge drop for Alabama in TONIGHT’s rankings. The committee could eventually drop Alabama in the rankings due to Tua’s injury, but only AFTER they have seen games played without him.

This is very interesting, and if true you would have to think that Alabama will likely maintain its #5 spot after making easy work of Mississippi State. Both of the Pac 12 teams that sit directly behind Alabama also dispatched mediocre to bad opponents, but none of the three really stood out from the others.
Looking forward to Saturday, Alabama could conceivably be “punished” for playing a FCS foe while Oregon and Utah tangle with unranked conference foes, and if one or both dominate in those games then some movement seems plausible.
Of course, if the committee is voting for the “four best” then the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
So, what do you think? Will the committee preemptively drop Alabama before seeing a game without Tua, or will Alabama hold steady?
Vote and expound below.
