How much do you love the Alabama Crimson Tide? Would you pass up a free college education? Jamey Mosley did... kinda.
The linebacker from Theodore, AL had full scholarship offers to play football at Western Kentucky, Arkansas State, UAB, Tulane, and Old Dominion. Instead of accepting one of those offers, he chose to walk-on at the University of Alabama. And he has never regretted it.
Mosley, who is younger brother of former Crimson Tide All-American/current Baltimore Raven C.J. Mosley, did not see any action in his first two seasons at the Capstone but his hard work and effort was rewarded with a scholarship during fall camp of 2016.
That fall Jamey saw some time on special teams and on defense late in blow-out games but it was his junior season in which he became a regular contributor.
In 2017, Mosley recorded his first start filling in for the injured Christian Miller and his first career sack against Fresno in the first quarter with the Tide leading 14-0. This was no garbage time stat. That season he saw time in 13 games with three starts on defense (Fresno, Colorado State, Arkansas) and as a regular on special teams. He recorded a career-high four tackles in the victory over LSU.
With an undergraduate degree in hand, Mosley continued his good work in 2018 seeing significant time in all 14 games, highlighted by a sack of Ole Miss QB Jordan Ta’amu.
Mosley could’ve gone to UAB or Tulane and been a four-year starter. However, he followed his heart and took the more challenging path. He entered Alabama as a 195 lbs walk-on and leaves with as a 239 lbs scholarshipped player with two National Championship rings and a college degree working on a Masters.
At the Annual Alabama Football Awards Banquet, Mosley was given the Pat Trammel Award given to “a senior player whose character and contributions to the Alabama Football Team most personify the All-American youth of today and has reflected qualities of Integrity, Character, Importance of Academics and Inspirational Leadership during their time at Alabama.”
I’d say that is the perfect award for Jamey Mosley.
