Alabama Crimson Tide vs South Carolina Gamecocks: Second Half Open thread

Score at the half: 24-10

NCAA Football: Alabama at South Carolina Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

For one of the few times in the last few years, someone is giving Alabama a tough game. Ryan Hilinski and the South Carolina Gamecocks have racked up 175 passing yards in the first half as they’ve extended drive after drive with a million papercuts on short outs and comeback routes all game (plus one deep ball that somehow went through the hands of both Shyheim Carter and Jordan Battle despite perfect double coverage).

The Gamecocks were within a few plays of this being a very scary game for the Tide, as they had a long touchdown on a fake field goal called back on a holding penalty as well as being on the one yard line at the end of the half before the Tide defense stood firm and kept them out of the endzone.

Offensively, the center of the line has really struggled for the Tide, and Will Muschamp has made sure to keep sending double A-gap blitzes quite frequently. Fortunately, Tua Tagovailoa and the receivers have been surgical in the passing game, and Najee Harris has been absolutely deadly as a receiver and has had a number of much more efficient runs than we’ve seen the last couple of weeks.

Will Reichard did miss an easy field goal, but, overall, 286 yards and 3 touchdowns from your QB by halftime is going to have you in front of most any team in college football.
