Five-star QB Bryce Young flips from USC to Alabama

The rumors turned out to be true, and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Student Sports

Bryce Young is the superstar dual threat QB of famed Mater Dei high school in Santa Ana, CA, and has been committed to USC for a couple of years. As the Trojans have struggled, however, Steve Sarksian and company have stayed hard after the nation’s #2 ranked dual threat passer, and it has paid off in a big way. Bryce and family were in the stands on Saturday and tried to keep it quiet. Alas, word got out and before he left, he gave some great news to Nick Saban.

It can’t be overstated how big this commitment is for the 2020 cycle. Young is an early enrollee who will arrive in Tuscaloosa in December and look to push for playing time right off the bat. Just as importantly, there is a great chance that he may influence a few other targets such as five-star TE Arik Gilbert and WR Dazalin Worsham.

Young isn’t the biggest guy at 6’0”, 175 lb. but he has all the tools. According to Maxpreps, he has completed right at 70% of his passes in high school while throwing for 10,000 yards on over 14 yards per completion, with only 16 total interceptions in over 1,000 attempts. He has reported 4.6-4.8 speed, but clearly prefers to use his legs to keep plays alive and run only when necessary.

Huge pickup that all Tide fans should be thrilled over. Highlights below. Welcome, Bryce!
