Nick Saban to be a big part of College Football Playoff title game coverage

It just isn’t the playoff without Nick Saban.

NCAA Football: Citrus Bowl-Michigan vs Alabama Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Alabama may not be in the title game this year, but Nick Saban will be there.

The current plan is for Saban to appear as part of ESPN’s “Championship Drive” pregame show starting at 6 p.m. EST alongside Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard and David Pollack. Saban is expected to be an active voice throughout the show leading up to kickoff from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. He will also appear as part of the halftime coverage breaking down the game of two teams he knows extremely well. The Alabama coach is the last one to defeat Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and one of the last two coaches, along with Jimbo Fisher who will also be featured in ESPN’s coverage, to beat LSU coach Ed Orgeron.

It’s a shame that Saban isn’t a part of the film room telecast since that would have broken the all-time ratings on that channel, but his opinion will carry plenty of weight on the broadcast. He should also have great chemistry with longtime pal Jimbo Fisher. Bottom line, the man is always recruiting, and this appearance is no exception.

Roll Tide.
