It was a fabulous week for big nose tackle Phidarian Mathis. First, he was recognized by Alabama as one of three student athletes of the week, alongside Paul Tyson and Daniel Wright.

Fabulous job by all three young men.
That award quickly became a footnote of the week for big Phil, however. As of 10:17am today, he is a father.

What a precious little gift.
Nothing like seeing one’s own newborn baby to turn a 312 lb. mountain of a man into a big softy. Mr. Mathis undoubtedly had NFL aspirations already, but there will be a little more motivation to achieve his dreams now. May his family enjoy health and happiness.
Congratulations, Phidarian. Nothing beats the experience of fatherhood.
Roll Tide.
