While the first group of participants in the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine arrived in Indianapolis on Sunday, on-field workouts won’t begin until Thursday, Feb. 27.

Monday begins measurements and pre-exams for Group 1 of quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends. Full medical exams ensue for them on Tuesday.

This year’s combine will have some new drills that are more applicable to the game than running 40 yards or doing a broad jump. As seems to be the trend these days, the NFL is again adopting the ways of college football in following the disciplines performed at Pro Days. Some of these new exercises include end zone fade routes for both quarterbacks and pass catchers, and more attention throwing to running backs. For linemen, there is more emphasis on changing directions to set-up or defend a screen play, jet sweeps, reverses and the like.

This year, the NFL has decided to push the workouts later into the evening as to optimize eyeballs into prime time.
