Nate Oats had a solid start on the recruiting trail last season, adding James Rojas from the juco ranks to a class that already consisted of outstanding prospects Jaden Shackelford, Jaylen Forbes, and Juwan Gary. It is unfortunate that Rojas and Gary ended up missing the season, but they will be back this winter and have a new five-star teammate in 6’6” Josh Primo. From 247sports:
“I chose to commit to Alabama and I think the biggest reason why I picked them is I had such a good relationship with coach Nate Oats,” Primo said. “He spoked with me and my family a lot and made it really clear what the vision was for me and my college career and that vision is what I had for myself.”
Primo, a 6-foot-6 versatile guard out of Toronto (Ontario) Royal Kings, picked Alabama over Creighton and a host of other high major offers. Primo took an official visit to Alabama on Dec. 28, and said Oats and his staff made him feel like their top priority.
247’s own ratings are higher on Josh than the composite, but he is a top 50 prospect across the board and a solid centerpiece to a 2020 class that also includes power forward Keon Ambrose-Hylton, who already signed. He needs to add a bit of weight at only 180 lbs. stretched out over his long frame, but his skills are undeniable and he should be a perfect fit for Nate’s high octane system. In the highlight video below, you even see him execute the one-handed kick to the corner off of a baseline drive, a staple drill in Nate’s practices.
This is a huge pull for the Tide and some much needed good news.
CB969 Notes: Like Kira Lewis a few years earlier, Primo has reclassified from the 2021 to the 2020 recruiting class. He joins fellow countryman Keon Ambrose-Hylton to make it an all-Canadian class for the Crimson Tide. The spring signing period for basketball lasts from April 15 to May 20.
Roll Tide.
