SEC Network Analyst Cole Cubelic, known especially for his outstanding film analysis of line play on Twitter, told BamaOnline that Alabama has the best returning offensive line in the country, and he’s not sure that anyone is close. Of particular interest is his projection on the starting lineup:
“I really like Darrian Dalcourt (at center), and I think they’ll probably need Dickerson somewhere else,” Cubelic said. “Everybody just assumes Evan Neal to right tackle, but I actually think that he’ll stay at guard. He could end up playing tackle, but just watching him last year, I don’t know if his feet are really going to allow him to excel at tackle. But he’s a super talented kid, he’s a big, physical kid. And any way you mix it or match it with those guys on the field, they’re going to be able to do some damage.
It seems that Cole favors Landon Dickerson at right tackle, leaving Neal inside and Dalcourt filling the fifth line spot at center, which is interesting. There has been plenty of speculation that Dalcourt would take over in the middle and hold down that position for at least a couple of years, but to this point most have assumed that Neal would move outside. This will be something to watch.
