Who Needs a Blog Poll: 2020 Week 2 — Midmajors swinging haymakers

If you recall, I told you that 2020 Army would be a very good team — much closer to the 10-win 2018 version? That a healthy Arkansas State was trouble? That ULL is a very good midmajor, with Billy Napier soon to be on everyone’s to-hire list? That BYU was looking at its most loaded roster in almost a decade?

Check, check, check, and check.

What no one really saw was 1. What a buzzsaw the above would actually be, and 2. How in need of Viagra the limp Big 12 would turn out to be. The Sun Belt went 2-0 against the Big 12; Army is smashing everything in its sights; BYU looks devastatingly good. Oklahoma didn’t so much as miss a beat. And, yes, Billy Napier is so, so gone.

On the other side of the Mississippi River, UNC failed to impress against a sad Syracuse club; the interior line of Clemson was soft in pass-blocking, but otherwise this team is the one to beat; Luhvl’s offense picked up where it left of last year; Miami and FSU have serious problems up front. In CUSA, it appears again that lil’ ole UAB and Appalachian State are the class of the conference. But, keep your eye out for Marshall, and — gun to my head — I think UAB can actually beat this iteration of Appie.
