Tide Hoops & Heisman Show Live Thread

It’s a big night for Alabama athletics

NCAA Football: Mississippi State at Alabama The Tuscaloosa News-USA TODAY Sports

What a night to be a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. On ESPN, the Heisman Trust will be awarding the most iconic award in collegiate athletics to one of four esteemed football players, potentially one of Alabama’s own in DeVonta Smith or Mac Jones. At the same time, ESPN2 will be showcasing Tide Hoops, which will be going head-to-head with the Florida Gators for the outright lead in the SEC standings.

Some breaking news on the latter event: Jahvon Quinerly will not play tonight due to “a medical condition”. There hasn’t been much more information released other than that vague description, so let’s hope that everything is ok regarding the young point guard. He’s had some tough times getting out on the court and being able to play the sport he loves; let’s hope this medical situation is nothing major.

Will Mac Jones become the first Alabama quarterback to ever raise the bronzed statue of John Heisman? Or will DeVonta Smith become the first wide receiver from any school in nearly 30 years since Desmond Howard landed the stiff-arm statue?

*If either Trevor Lawrence or Kyle Trask somehow ends up winning, we riot.

And can Tide Hoops #getmessy and start to change the culture of Alabama basketball by stringing successes together? It’ll be tough without the explosive Quinerly.

No matter what happens, let’s just take some time to bask in the mere existence that a night like tonight is even possible.

Roll Tide, y’all.
