Well, we wondered where Alabama would be placed in the first playoff ranking, and tonight we got our answer. Your top 10:

  1. Georgia
  2. Alabama
  3. Michigan State
  4. Oregon
  5. Ohio State
  6. Cincinnati
  7. Michigan
  8. Oklahoma
  9. Wake Forest
  10. Notre Dame

This really changes nothing in terms of the Tide’s control of its own destiny. Should the Tide win out, they will most likely be the top seed in the playoffs. What this does signal is the committee’s respect for the Tide despite the loss in College Station. The Aggies came in at #14 in the rankings, which certainly helped Alabama’s case. Auburn checked in at #13, and as you all know the Tide will close the regular season in Jordan Hare. Should Alabama win out and then lose close in Atlanta, perhaps they will have an outside chance.

Oregon got credit for their win in Columbus, but can they hang on to that #4 slot as Ohio State’s schedule strengthens? Oklahoma hasn’t looked great but that seems a little low to me, and Wake Forest is still a tough sell as a top ten team, but they are unbeaten and you have to put someone there.

So, what are your thoughts? Where did they get it right and wrong?

Roll Tide.
