Alabama Softball Is Back On!

The 2021 Crimson Tide’s opening opponents have changed but there will be softball this weekend.

Credit AD Greg Byrne and the UA Athletics Department for getting the #8 Crimson Tide back on the diamond for this weekend. Alabama was originally slated to take a trip to Austin, TX for the Texas Classic but the tournament was cancelled.

Alabama made quick work to find some alternative games for Team25.

REVISED SCHEDULE

  • Friday, Feb. 12 at Alabama State - 5 p.m. CT - Montgomery, Ala.
  • Saturday, Feb. 13 vs. Notre Dame - 4:30 p.m. CT - Montgomery, Ala.
  • Sunday, Feb. 14 vs. Louisville (DH) - 12 p.m. CT - Tuscaloosa, Ala.

ASU & ND

Alabama State already had the Irish, Tennessee Tech, Western Carolina, and North Alabama lined up for the Stinger Classic, a weekend tournament held in Montgomery. The good folks at ASU allowed the Crimson Tide to join in the fun. No TV has been announced but it appears the ASU YouTube page may be streaming the games. No tickets will be sold. Only those listed on the player pass list will be allowed inside the ASU complex.

Notre Dame (13-9 in 2020; 37-18 in 2019) is a decent team. They usually make it into the Regionals but rarely advance. They are picked to finish third in the ACC this season.

‘VILLE

Louisville (10-13 in 2020; 35-23 in 2019) was supposed to play South Carolina this weekend. However due to expected bad weather in Columbia, those games were cancelled. Sunday’s home games at Rhoads will not be available on video but can be heard locally on 93.3 FM http://praise933.com. No fans will be allowed for these games.

The Tide and Cardinals met last season with Bama dominating 9-0 and 10-0 at the Easton Bash in Tuscaloosa. ‘Ville is picked to finish seventh in the ACC.

None of these three opponents are on the playing level with Alabama. Anything less than a dominating sweep of the weekend would be disappointing.
