Storm postpones Alabama basketball at Texas A&M

It took long enough, but the right call was made.

NCAA Basketball: Georgia at Alabama Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

In a decision that came later than it should have, Alabama’s basketball game that was originally scheduled for tonight, but moved to tomorrow in the face of the generational ice storm that is crippling the state of Texas, has been postponed.

For whatever reason, the SEC office seemed determined to get this game in, and it’s tough to understand why. It’s unlikely that the postseason fates of either squad were going to be impacted in any meaningful way. More importantly, hundreds of thousands of Texans are without power and the Aggies’ basketball arena is being used as a warming shelter. Were they just going to move everyone out into the cold so that basketball could happen? Never mind the dangers of travel in icy conditions.

In any case, they got it right in the end. No word yet on whether they will require the game to be made up before the SEC tournament. That seems rather pointless, but we will keep you updated. Next up for the Tide is Vanderbilt in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday.

Roll Tide.
