For the nation’s top running back, there was no drama around his commitment to Alabama. Because of the silence out of his camp, crootin reporters conjured up imaginary scenarios of Camar Wheaton wavering on his pledge to the Crimson Tide.
On Wednesday’s National Signing Day, the 5-star from Garland, TX put those tall tales in the ground and buried them six feet deep as he signed with the Tide in a ceremony at his school.
An interesting thing we learned about Wheaton is that he doesn’t like to do interviews and doesn’t like to talk about his recruiting. That sounds an awful lot like Najee Harris’s recruitment.
In only five games this past fall, Wheaton rushed for 603 yards and 8 touchdowns. As a junior, he had 1,142 yards on the ground and 15 scores. He finishes his high school career with 3,731 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns, plus two scores through the air.
Wheaton is the third running back that Alabama has snatched from under Oklahoma’s noses in recent years. In 2016, Bama went into Tulsa and found sleeper hit Josh Jacobs. Last season, it was future star Jase McClellan who flipped from the Sooners. Wheaton was thought to have been a strong Oklahoma lean for many months.
