Playing on the Saturday of the SEC Tournament isn’t uncharted territory for the Crimson Tide, but winning on this day certainly has been. Alabama hasn’t advanced to the championship game of the tournament since that much-ballyhooed 2002 squad. However, if there was ever a year to break that streak, it’d be this one.
Yesterday’s performance was about as dominant of one as I’ve ever seen from an Alabama basketball team. If they play even close to that level today, even against a better opponent in Tennessee, we’ll all be back here tomorrow at the same time, ready to watch the Tide try to pull off the rare double-dip of SEC titles.
As expected, Josh Primo and Tennessee’s John Fulkerson will not play today - though, thankfully, it appears both avoided significant injury. The Tide will likely lean even more on Jahvon Quinerly as the primary ball-handler today, but expect to see a lot more of my guy, Keon Ellis, playing out on the wing. Tennessee will have to elevate a couple of bench bigs that are nowhere near Fulkerson’s level.
The game will tip at noon CST and will be televised on EPSN. Alabama is favored by 4.
