Alabama Crimson Tide (8-5) vs Vanderbilt Commodores (5-8)

Opening Day of SEC play is here! Your Alabama Crimson Tide is on the road to open up the 2024 conference season in the house of mirrors that is Memorial Gymnasium for a match-up with the hapless Vanderbilt Commodores. Nate Oats will be looking to pull off something that hasn’t been done in Tuscaloosa in five decades - winning three SEC regular season titles in a span of four years. The Tide’s title defense begins today.

Vanderbilt had seemingly been on the up and up the past few years under Jerry Stackhouse, but injuries and a lack of overall talent have instead installed Vanderbilt as the leader in the clubhouse for worst team in the conference. Still, the start of conference play can provide a clean sheet for everyone, and Vanderbilt does have a dynamic duo of guards in Ezra Manjon and Tyrin Lawrence who can really ball on the offensive end. Alabama can’t take these guys lightly at their place.

The Tide is listed as a 14-point favorite, though. The game will tip-off at 2:30 PM CST and will be televised on the SEC Network.
