Brodie Croyle isn't ready to accept being just a backup quarterback in the NFL, although that's where he will find himself when the Kansas City Chiefs open training camp next month. In an effort to remain healthy this season, Croyle has put on some extra weight. "Last year I was around 205, 206 pounds," he said. "When we finished minicamp (in May) I was at 214. Maybe that will give me a chance to stay healthy and be able to take the beating you take when you play in the NFL."Birmingham News: Former Alabama standout Brodie Croyle not content as Kansas City Chiefs backup to Matt Cassel Well it's about damn time he came to that realization. Only took a decade.
Some highlights of 'Bama commitment Brent Calloway. Not hard to see why he is being recruited by practically every school in the country and why most think he is the top player in the state of Alabama.

"I think everything is on schedule, particularly the stadium," Moore told tidesportsextra.com. "I was over there yesterday, kind of walking through some of it. It is beautiful. All the work now is being done inside the South end zone. The carpet is down, a lot of finishing work. USC appealed only certain aspects of this month's ruling. Among the penalties were a two-year bowl ban, four years of probation, scholarship losses and removal of several victories. The school will accept a bowl ban for the upcoming season and certain scholarship penalties in football, but believes the full sanctions were unduly harsh. USC asked for the two-year postseason ban to be reduced to one year. The school also wants the NCAA's scholarship reductions in football from 2011 to 2013 to be reduced to five lost scholarships in each season, rather than 10.ESPN: USC asks NCAA for 1-year bowl ban So, in effect, USC is "accepting" a one-year bowl ban and a reduction of fifteen scholarships. All of which just begs the question, why in the hell didn't they just self-impose this in the first place? Sometimes I wonder just how much of the issue in Heritage Hall is arrogance and corruption, and how much is just plain damn incompetence. The smart money on the over / under on the amount of time the Infractions Appeal Committee takes to deny the appeal? Somewhere in the neighborhood of four seconds.
