Alabama's Derrick Henry, Calvin Ridley honored in weekly SEC awards

The Alabama offense got in gear and won some awards for it.

Alabama's Derrick Henry and Calvin Ridley were named the SEC's Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week for their efforts in helping the Crimson Tide roll over Georgia, the league announced Monday.

Henry rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries against the Bulldogs, winning the ballyhooed "battle" of the running backs with Georgia's Nick Chubb, who mustered 146 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries in a losing effort.

Henry's honor was also his second such laurel this season. He was also named the SEC's Offensive Player of the Week after his three-touchdown performance against Wisconsin in Alabama's season opener.

Ridley, meanwhile, was a revelation, catching five passes for 120 yards and a touchdown and becoming the first freshman to post 100 receiving yards for Alabama since Amari Cooper. His recent emergence shores up a shaky Alabama receiving corps, and gave Jacob Coker (and Lane Kiffin) a go-to target through the air on Saturday.
