Yesterday defined "closing the sale" for the Tide staff. Good job, you've earned that coffee, Coach.

We're absolutely beat today from the previous few days of NSD coverage and content. Today's JP will be relatively take-free -- excellence speaks for itself, amirite?

In all seriousness, we'll also have an afternoon JP today with more stuff of substance. For now, check out these recaps of the Alabama class, the national picture, and some other interesting NSD/recruiting tidbits.

Watch Nick Saban discuss the results from the 2016 national signing day Wednesday in the video above

The Dark Lord's post-NSD presser. Definitely worth a watch.

"We were in need, we were searching," Saban said. "We wanted to make sure that we got two running backs. We only have a couple, three guys on scholarship. That’s the least we’ve ever had at that position and nobody coming back that has any significant experience. We got one early that we really, really like and then just never ever found the next guy or had an opportunity to get the guy that was really interested or close by here. This really worked out well for us."

Interesting to note here that Saban said there weren't really guys "close by here." That makes sense, actually. Running backs under Saban have hailed from the South: Florida (Hart,) Alabama (Yeldon,) Georgia (Drake,) Tenpenny (Arkansas,) Georgia (Tyren Jones,) Florida (Glen Coffee,) Louisiana (Lacy,) with the one main outlier in Michigan (Ingram, natch.) On the roster now, however, are backs from Kentucky, Alabama, North Carolina (soon,) and Tulsa (just committed.)

For whatever reason, Saban and staff look close to home.

And the most stunning thing is that it could have been even better. "They didn't get everybody they wanted, which people think Alabama always does, but they closed very strong," said Mike Farrell, national recruiting director for Rivals.com. National Signing Day had its surprises. Alabama ending up No. 1, however, wasn't one of them. "I wasn't really surprised by anything," Farrell said. "The amazing thing about Alabama is they're still No. 1 and they whiffed on some guys they really wanted like A.J. Brown and Jeffery Simmons."

A timeline of how Alabama started the day in decent shape, lost some high-profile targets, and then rebounded with a Saban-esque vengeance.

It's time to embrace the Crimson Tide. There's not a thing you, I or anyone else can do about their dominance. You don't have to root for Alabama and you probably won't. But you should appreciate what Saban is doing in Tuscaloosa. Really, you should.

Really, we already do. Being the bad guy is fun.

While the history of successful recruiting may impress fans and recruiting junkies, head coach Nick Saban did not appear too eager to celebrate the accomplishment. "Perception doesn’t win any games for us around here," Saban said, "but good players do. Until these guys sort of grow and develop, you really don’t know what kind of class you have. It’s everybody’s guesstimate at this point as to what kind of class we really have. We’re excited about them. We’re pleased with them. But you can’t make predictions about these types of things."

Saban doesn't just want the best players -- he wants the best players that are also committed to building and maintaining a dominant program. Good insight in this article.

Since Monday, Alabama added two Composite five-star linebackers, three four-star cornerbacks, a four-star defensive end, a three-star cornerback flipped from Florida, a three-star running back, and a three-star JUCO defensive end — and a walk-on kicker, because Alabama could actually use a kicker after having its ballyhooed kicker recruit flip to Florida. Depending on how you count it, as many as nine new players chose the Tide on Signing Day.

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema did a little backtracking on national signing day. And he ended up making two phone calls that had nothing to do with his recruiting class. Bielema called Mississippi coach Hugh Freeze and Florida's Jim McElwain to explain what he meant Wednesday when he said on ESPN2 that "Florida (is) kind of the new Ole Miss. They're doing some things recruiting that kind of shocks you a little bit."

Coach B can try and backpedal this one all he wants and say he meant that "Ole Miss was national in its recruiting scope like Florida." The fact is, that makes no sense. Notre Dame is a national brand. Alabama is national brand. USC is national brand. Ole Miss, like Auburn, is a very regionally-locked program that recruits by and large from its region, including locking down its home state. This is a safe space, Bret, we know what you mean...and so does the NCAA.

Get to work

"Jonah [Williams] is one of the most athletic guys that we saw out there in recruiting," Saban said. "We think he could play center, guard or tackle. Very smart. Very athletic. Quick feet. We were excited about him." Alabama landed five offensive linemen in its 2016 class, including a junior college signee. Charles Baldwin, who projects as an offensive tackle, will arrive as a junior. Saban said he expects the junior college signees "to be good enough to play, because we need them to play." The Crimson Tide signed offensive tackle Scott Lashley, who committed on Tuesday, and Decatur guard Deonte Brown.

Smith, just weeks after decommitting from Texas A&M, chooses Alabama over A&M, Texas, and Memphis.

Alabama has added another tight-end to its roster with Irvin Smith, a three-star prospect, who has decided to sign with the Crimson Tide after recently decommiting from Texas A&M. The former Fightin'-Texas-Aggie commit visited Alabama officially just one day removed from his decision to explorer his options elsewhere.

Smith, a New Orleans, La. native, is a 6-4, 230-pound prospect out of Brothers Martin. He is the 22nd ranked tight-end and the 523rd ranked prospect overall. Smith chose the Crimson Tide over Texas, Memphis and A&M. Running backs coach Burton Burns and special teams/tight ends coach Bobby Williams have been on the trail recruiting Smith even after his commitment to the Aggies on Oct. 16, with Burns spearheading the recruitment.

Burns visited Smith twice in-home, with one of those visits taking place the day before he decommitted from Texas A&M. Smith has recently gotten action from Memphis and Texas as well, but ultimately Alabama was able to convince him to come to Tuscaloosa.

Smith had 31 receptions for 558 yards and 4 touchdowns during his senior year at Brother Martin. He will join a roster with senior O.J. Howard getting most of the action at that position.

The Washington D.C. prospect has decided to join the Tide over Maryland, Florida State and Ole Miss

Five months after de-committing from Ohio State, Terrell Hall has decided to take his talents to central Alabama. The four-star, weak-side defensive end from Washington, D.C. is sixth-ranked at his position for the 2016 class.

Hall, who had over 30 offers, has visited Alabama unofficially multiple times, with one of those being the Ole Miss game. Linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi has done most of the recruiting when it comes to Hall, pitching him back in the summer when he was still committed to the Buckeyes. In an interview with AL.com back in July, Hall said of Alabama:

"(They said) basically this is the right fit for me and the perfect fit for me as far as playing the JACK linebacker and showing off my athleticism. I can pass rush and stop the run but I can also drop in coverage. Basically, they think that I belong in the SEC."

Hall is 6-5, 250 pound recruit who narrowed his choice down to Alabama, Maryland, Florida State and Ole Miss on Feb. 1 before ultimately picking Alabama. Here is what Scout had to say about his talents:

"Hall brings a terrific combination of athleticism, explosion and body control to the defensive end position. He gets off the line of scrimmage quickly, knows how to dip his shoulder to get past the offensive tackle on the inside or outside, and he has the length and change of direction to bring down the ball carrier."

ROLL TIDE!

After flirting with the idea of playing for the rebuilding Georgia Bulldogs, Lyndell Wilson has announced that he will be staying home and playing for the Crimson Tide. As one of only 25 players given 5-stars, Wilson should be an elite player for Alabama who will contribute heavily as a true freshman.

Wilson has good size (6'2"/230) and the versatility to play any linebacker position for the Crimson Tide. They call him "Mack" because he hits like a Mack truck. Wilson wreaked havoc on opposing offenses tallying 115 tackles, 75 of which were solo, for an average of 11.5 tackles per game. He finished with 5.0 sacks, four caused fumbles and a recovery for Carver High School in Montgomery, AL.

Wilson earned Class 6A all-state honors by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and is a three-time All-Metro selection by the Montgomery Advertiser. He also took part in the UnderArmour All-America Game.

Could this be the sleeper of the year?

Jamar King's journey to the Capstone has been a long and arduous journey from Detroit, Michigan to Ukiah, California and now to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

King played at Denby Tech/Preparatory High School in Detroit. Without any real offers, he took his game to Mendocino C.C. in northern California. This past season, he registered 63 total tackles in nine games as a sophomore, including nine sacks, 23.5 stops for loss, and three pass break-ups. But still, he was on few radars.

At 6'5" 285, this 3 stars defensive end is somewhat of an unknown commodity. Up until a month ago, the only schools looking at him were UCF, Boise State, Colorado State, and Northern Arizona. And then someone on the Alabama staff got wind of him and made him an offer in late December. Ohio State followed soon after in January.

The Crimson Tide has had some good luck with signing defensive linemen from the junior college ranks. Former Tide players such as Jesse Williams, Quinton Dial, Jarran Reed and D.J. Pettway come to mind.

Looking at the video below, it is easy to see what the Bama staff saw in King. See for yourself.

King has three years to complete his two remaining seasons of college eligibility. He is on pace to graduate in May. He chose Alabama over Ohio State.

This was a surprise, but a pleasant one.

In the late morning, Nick Saban and company got some pleasant, but to outside observers, unexpected news as Florida CB commit Aaron Robinson spurned the Gators for teh greener pastures of Tuscaloosa.

The 6'1", 178-pound Robinson has the prototypical long frame that Saban covets in DBs. With Robinson's commitment, Alabama has now signed four ESPN300 CBs in the span of three days.

From zero to hero, Joshua Jacobs is suddenly going to play for the National Champions.

At 5'11" 200, and two common names, Joshua Jacobs is the most average seeming running back you could possibly find. What isn't average, however, is the fact that he rushed for 2704 yards and 36 touchdowns in 2015 with an average gain of 15.1 ypc. Despite this production, Jacobs was hardly recruited at all for much of the process, only getting offers from New Mexico State and Wyoming.

Suddenly in January, he had offers flying in from schools all over the nation, such as Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, and Alabama. He took a visit to Missouri, and then received an offer from Alabama and took off to see Tuscaloosa the very next day. For Jacobs, it has been a whirlwind two weeks, but the allure of playing running back for the Crimson Tide was strong enough to make a rapid decision.

The three star all purpose back is 10th in the nation at his position, and ranked 349th overall. Not only is he an accomplished running back, but has significant experience at receiver as well. Not only that, but he seems to have his head on straight as well:

"I’m completely open," Jacobs said. "My dad and I talk about it all the time. It isn’t just the next four years for me. It is about the next 40 years. There is life after football and that’s what this is all about for me.

"When I was in the seventh grade I talked with an engineer from Williams Companies. That’s when I decided I wanted to go into engineering. What I do in school, and in football, is all geared about the long view of life."

Jacobs said his education interest include natural gas, both exploration and management.

As a current Chemical Engineering student at Alabama, I would personally be elated to see the first Alabama football player since Leigh Tiffin give the program a shot.

With Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake both leaving for the NFL and fellow 2016 running back B.J. Emmons a possible academic casualty, Jacobs will be in the running for playing time as a true freshman, particularly in the role vacated by Drake.

It took long enough, but Ben Davis was never not going to end up in Tuscaloosa

Hailing from the farming town of Gordo, Alabama, Ben Davis, the nation's top linebacker, stretched his recruitment out over the course of two full years, despite most everyone considering him to be a lock to come to his father's alma mater the entire time.

Amidst the coaching changes and general turmoil involved in college football, Davis has remained rather tight-lipped about his preferences. After Kirby Smart left to coach Georgia, Davis showed a significant uptake in interest in the Bulldogs, and a visit to Auburn last weekend caused him to rethink a recent declaration that Alabama was his leader.

Occasionally, however, the media actually gets things right. The 10th-ranked player in the nation and the state of Alabama's top player was destined to be the next in line of elite middle linebackers for the Crimson Tide. With the recent decommitments of linebackers Riley Cole and Jaquan Yulee, the Crimson Tide had no linebackers committed for their 2016 recruiting class, and Davis will be the first. Linebackers such as Lyndell Wilson, Terrell Hall, and Mique Juarez will all make their final decisions later today, and the Tide has a good shot at adding a few more partners for Davis.

Davis joins Jonah Williams as the only 5 star players in Alabama's class so far, and is easily the highest rated player of this group.
